Meet Zaine Adamson, owner of ZA Construction
I grew up around the trades. Dad was a boat builder before he moved into joinery, and I was always the kid making things or pulling them apart to see how they worked. I'm dyslexic and wasn't the best at school, but I could always picture how something should go together.
While I was still doing my apprenticeship I spent most weekends on small building jobs for friends and family. One job led to the next by word of mouth. In 2023, in the middle of a recession, I backed myself and started ZA Construction. The work has kept coming, mostly from people recommending us.
I like building because no two jobs are the same. I get on best with clients who care how the finished job turns out, and I would rather talk through a sensible budget with you than race to the cheapest price.

What work does ZA Construction take on?
We build and renovate homes in Auckland. That means new builds, renovations and extensions, outdoor living and decks, landscaping and earthworks, bathrooms and kitchens, and cladding and recladding. We don't build standard fences.
How do I get a free quote?
Use the form on this page or call 027 577 5892. Tell us what you want built or changed and where the property is, and we will talk it through before putting a price together.
Will my project need building consent?
It depends on the work. New builds and structural changes need consent, and so can some decks, pergolas and bathroom alterations, depending on size, height and what is changing. Auckland Council makes that call, and when we scope the job we talk through whether yours is likely to need one.
How long will my project take?
That depends on the size of the job, the design, how long consent takes and the weather for outdoor work. We give you a realistic timeframe when we quote and let you know if anything shifts.
Can a deck or outdoor area be built with a renovation?
Yes. When one builder handles the house and the outdoor space, a deck, pergola or covered area can be designed alongside a renovation or new build, so levels, doors and finishes line up from the start.
Which areas do you work in?
Most of our work is in East, Central and South Auckland, and we travel to the Coromandel. The service area section above lists the suburbs. Put yours in the quote form and we will confirm.
Who handles the plumbing and electrical work?
Plumbing, drainlaying, gas and electrical work has to be done by suitably licensed tradespeople. On bathrooms and kitchens we coordinate those trades so they arrive in the right order.
How can I check that my builder is licensed?
Licensed Building Practitioners are listed on the public LBP register, so you can look up any builder by name. Ask for the details of the person doing the restricted building work on your home and check them there before you sign.
